In late 1996, 6 people from the Grand Island area began discussing the possibility of bringing R/C racing back to this area. We had heard from several old racers that they wanted to start racing again. There were also many new R/C car owners asking where they might be able to race.

After much discussion and scouting for race locations, we decided the time was right to make a new attempt at club-level racing. The Nebraska Scale Auto Racers (NESCAR) name was resurrected. Our goal is to encourage family involvement in our hobby, bring new racers of all ages and experience levels in to the sport, and provide a fun place to race.

Our initial efforts were very successful. Our inaugural race, the Big Boys’ Toys weekend at Fonner Park (1996) had over 80 entries for the 2-day race weekend. We raced for 3- weeks at an empty store at a local mall. We saw incredible growth in entries each time we raced before a change in mall management forced us out. We now have a lease on a race facility in Phillips Nebraska for 10-12 carpet race weekends each winter. However, we still are looking for a building to race in Grand Island. In March of 2000, NESCAR members went to the Grand Island City Council and asked them if they could find us a place to build a dirt track for summer racing. They agreed to do so, and have allowed us to build a clay track with some help from our GREAT City Parks and Utilities Departments. We now have a clay race track at Ashley Park on the North end of Grand Island. This track is open 8am till dark year round weather permitting. We just ask that you not run on the track when it is wet. Each year our goal is to improve the racing at each track.

So where is all this heading?

NESCAR currently has 30+ active members. We are the ones that setup, run, maintain, and tear down the race track at evey event. Past history of clubs in this and other areas shows that where only a few people carry the load, they tend to suffer burnout. If no one is there to pick up the slack, THE RACING ENDS….

If you want racing to continue in this area, we need you to join NESCAR and be an ACTIVE member. It’s only $20 per year for a single membership or $30 for a family membership. This brings us to the age old question….

What's in it for me?

First, and most important, an active club can provide a place to race. You also get discounted racing. What do we expect of club members? Not that much, really. We ask that all members help with the setup, tear-down, or maintenance of the track whenever possible. Members will be compensated for this assistance.
